Advocate Faces Threats Over Legal Fees in Ahmedabad High Court Complex

Police in Ahmedabad have taken action following serious allegations from a local advocate. The Navrangpura police station registered a formal case of criminal intimidation and abuse on Saturday. This development comes after advocate Nitin Gandhi filed a detailed complaint about threatening behavior he experienced.

Incident Unfolds in Court Premises

Nitin Gandhi practices law at the Ahmedabad rural court located within the Old High Court complex. According to his official statement, the trouble began on Friday around noon. Gandhi was sitting at his table inside the court complex when Ramsinh Desai, a former client, approached him unexpectedly.

Desai immediately questioned Gandhi about the status of a land-grabbing case involving another individual. The advocate explained that drafting work for this matter had already been completed by his junior associate. He clarified that the necessary documents had been shared previously.

Demand for Money Return Escalates to Threats

Instead of accepting this explanation, Desai made a direct demand. He insisted that Gandhi return Rs 3.5 lakh to him immediately. Desai claimed that the case in question had never been formally filed in court.

Gandhi responded by pointing out an important detail. He noted that Desai had collected the legal fees directly from the other party involved in the case. The advocate emphasized that he had not been involved in this financial transaction.

This response triggered an aggressive reaction from Desai. The former client allegedly threatened to recover the money by force. He specifically mentioned that his son, Sujal Desai, possessed special skills in money recovery. The threats grew more severe as the confrontation continued.

Life Threats and Follow-Up Harassment

Desai allegedly warned Gandhi that he knew both his office location and residential address. He then threatened to kill the advocate, according to the police complaint. The situation did not end with this face-to-face encounter.

The following day brought additional harassment. Sujal Desai, the son mentioned in the threats, allegedly made multiple WhatsApp calls to advocate Gandhi. During these attempted communications, he reportedly abused the lawyer verbally. He repeated the demand for repayment of the legal fees. Sujal also reiterated the life threats previously made by his father.

When Gandhi did not answer these calls, the harassment continued through messages. Ramsinh Desai allegedly sent abusive and threatening text messages via WhatsApp. These digital communications contained similar threats and demands.

Police Take Formal Action

Navrangpura police have registered a formal offence against both Ramsinh Desai and his son Sujal Desai. The case includes charges of criminal intimidation and abuse under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Police officials are now investigating the matter thoroughly.

The incident highlights tensions that can arise in attorney-client relationships, particularly concerning financial matters. It also raises questions about security within court premises where legal professionals conduct their daily work.

Advocate Nitin Gandhi continues his legal practice while the police investigation proceeds. The father-son duo will face legal proceedings based on the evidence collected during the investigation.
