At least seven people were killed and one was injured after a truck collided with a van carrying a band party in Jharkhand's Ramgarh district, police said on Friday. The accident occurred around midnight in the Barlong Budhbazar area under the Rajrappa police station limits.
Six Died on the Spot, One Succumbed Later
Ramgarh Sub-Divisional Police Officer Alok Ranjan told PTI that six people died instantly at the scene, while one more succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital. The injured person is currently receiving medical care, and their condition is reported to be stable.
Bodies Sent for Post-Mortem
The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examination, Ranjan added. The van was carrying members of a band party, though the exact purpose of their travel was not immediately disclosed. The truck driver fled the scene after the crash, and a search is underway to apprehend him.
Police Investigation Underway
Senior police officers visited the accident site and have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the collision. Preliminary reports suggest that the truck was speeding and lost control, hitting the van from the side. The Rajrappa police are registering a case and examining evidence, including vehicle debris and witness statements.
Rising Road Accident Toll in Jharkhand
This incident adds to the growing number of road accidents in Jharkhand, where poor road conditions, overspeeding, and negligent driving are common causes. According to state transport department data, over 1,500 people died in road accidents in Jharkhand in 2025. Local authorities have been urged to improve road safety measures and enforce traffic rules more strictly.
