5 Arrested in Uttarakhand Student Murder, One Accused Flees to Nepal

The Uttarakhand government has adopted a firm stance regarding the shocking murder of Tripura student Angel Chakma in Dehradun. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has labeled the incident as "completely unacceptable" and promised stringent action against those responsible.

Chief Minister's Stern Warning and Police Action

In an official statement released on Sunday, the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) conveyed that CM Dhami is treating the case with utmost seriousness. He warned that anti-social elements playing with law and order will not be spared and can expect no leniency from the state administration. The government is committed to ensuring the safety of every citizen in Uttarakhand, the release reaffirmed.

On the ground, police have moved swiftly. Five individuals have already been arrested in connection with the brutal assault that led to Chakma's death. Among these, two are minors who have been sent to a juvenile reform home. Authorities are actively conducting raids to apprehend one accused who remains at large. In a significant development, a police team has been dispatched to Nepal in pursuit of this absconding suspect, on whom a reward of ₹25,000 has been announced.

Interstate Coordination and Condolences

The case has also prompted coordination between two state governments. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha revealed on Saturday that he spoke with his Uttarakhand counterpart, Pushkar Singh Dhami, regarding the tragic death of Angel Chakma. Chakma, a resident of Nandanagar in Unakoti district, Tripura, was brutally assaulted by a group in Dehradun on December 9 and later succumbed to his injuries at Graphic Era Hospital.

CM Saha, in a post on social media platform X, stated that he was informed during the conversation that five arrests had already been made. He was assured that further investigation is ongoing and justice will be delivered. Chief Minister Dhami has also personally expressed his condolences over the young student's death.

Path Forward and Assurance of Justice

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has issued direct instructions to the police to ensure the earliest possible arrest of the fugitive accused. He expressed confidence that the individual would soon be in police custody. The government's message is clear: such crimes have no place in the state, and the administration will deal strictly with perpetrators to maintain public order and citizen security.

The incident has cast a spotlight on student safety and law enforcement responsiveness. With arrests made, an international manhunt underway, and the highest levels of government engaged, authorities are under pressure to deliver swift justice for Angel Chakma and his family.
