4 TCS Employees Get Judicial Custody Till May 18

Four employees of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) have been remanded to judicial custody until May 18 in connection with a case involving the alleged religious conversion of a male colleague and sexual harassment of female colleagues. The accused were produced before a local court in Maharashtra, which ordered their judicial custody after the police sought further investigation.

Accused Identified

The four accused have been identified as Raza Rafiq Memon (35), Tausif Bilal Attar (37), Danish Ejaz Sheikh (32), and Shahrukh Husain Shaukat Qureshi (34). They are employees of TCS and were arrested earlier this week following a complaint filed by a male colleague who alleged that he was forced to convert to another religion. Additionally, several women colleagues have accused the four of sexual harassment.

Legal Proceedings

The police presented the accused before the court on Wednesday, seeking extended custody for further investigation. However, the court granted judicial custody until May 18, citing the need for a thorough probe. The accused will remain in jail during this period as the investigation continues.

According to the complaint, the alleged conversion and harassment took place over several months at the TCS office in Mumbai. The male victim claimed that the accused used threats and coercion to force him to change his religion. Women colleagues also reported instances of inappropriate behavior and harassment.

Company Response

TCS has issued a statement saying it is cooperating with the authorities and has launched an internal inquiry. The company emphasized that it maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy towards harassment and any form of misconduct. TCS also assured that it will take appropriate action based on the findings of the investigation.

Next Steps

The police are expected to file a chargesheet within the stipulated time. The accused may apply for bail after May 18. The case has drawn significant attention, highlighting issues of workplace harassment and religious freedom.
