A tragic road accident in dense fog near Hoshiarpur on Saturday morning claimed the lives of four people from Himachal Pradesh. The victims were on their way to Amritsar airport when their car collided with a Punjab Roadways bus.
Journey Ends in Tragedy Near Hoshiarpur
Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of Chalet village in Daulatpur town, Himachal Pradesh, was driving to the Amritsar airport with three friends. The group was accompanying Sukhwinder's son, Amrit Kumar, for his flight. The airport is approximately 150 kilometers from their starting point.
However, their journey was cut short barely a third of the way. In the early hours of Saturday, under conditions of severely reduced visibility due to dense fog, their vehicle crashed into a Punjab Roadways bus. The impact of the collision near Hoshiarpur proved fatal for four occupants of the car.
The Lone Survivor of the Devastating Crash
While the accident resulted in four fatalities, there was one survivor. Amrit Kumar, the son of Sukhwinder Singh, survived the collision. He was the intended passenger for the airport drop-off. The identities of the three friends traveling with the father-son duo have not been fully disclosed in initial police reports.
Local authorities confirmed the incident and are investigating the precise circumstances that led to the crash. Preliminary information points to the challenging weather conditions as a significant contributing factor.
Road Safety Concerns in Poor Visibility
This fatal accident highlights the persistent dangers of driving in dense fog, a common weather phenomenon in northern parts of India during the winter months. The stretch near Hoshiarpur where the collision occurred is part of a major route connecting Himachal Pradesh to key destinations in Punjab like Amritsar.
The incident serves as a grim reminder for all travelers to exercise extreme caution, reduce speed, and use appropriate vehicle lights when visibility is poor. Police have reiterated standard safety advisories for drivers navigating in foggy conditions to prevent such tragedies.
