The survivor, who is reported to be suffering from a mental illness, was on her way back home when the accused, all residents of Rayagada district in their 30s, intercepted her. The attack took place near a secluded stretch. According to police sources, the men gagged her, forcibly dragged her into a nearby forest area, and sexually assaulted her. The perpetrators also threatened her with dire consequences if she dared to reveal the crime to anyone.

Swift Police Response and Arrests

After enduring the trauma, the young woman managed to return home and narrated her ordeal to her mother. Following this, a formal complaint was lodged at the local police station earlier on Tuesday. Rayagada Superintendent of Police Swathy S Kumar stated that a special team was formed which led to the arrest of all three accused within hours of the complaint being filed. The arrested individuals have been remanded to judicial custody.

The survivor was provided immediate medical attention and admitted to a local hospital, where she is currently recovering. The police have assured that the investigation is being closely monitored by the Crime Against Women and Children Wing (CAWCW) to ensure a thorough probe.
