Government counsel Narendra Sharma confirmed that the prosecution was unable to substantiate the charges against the accused beyond a reasonable doubt. The court observed that the evidence presented was insufficient to secure a conviction, leading to the acquittal of all 22 defendants.
The case originated from incidents reported in Mohammadpur Raisingh village on September 8, 2013, during the peak of the Muzaffarnagar riots. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) had initially filed a chargesheet against 26 people in connection with the violent events.

According to the prosecution, a complaint was lodged by Haneef, who alleged that hundreds of rioters attacked houses in the village, looted property, and subsequently set homes ablaze. The complaint further stated that Haneef's father, Rahishuddin, was brutally beaten to death during the assault.
Additional accusations included damage to a mosque and the burning of a motorcycle belonging to a police constable, highlighting the severity of the violence that engulfed the area.
During the lengthy trial, four of the original 26 accused passed away, leaving 22 individuals to face the judicial proceedings. The acquitted accused, all residents of Mohammadpur Raisingh village, are:
