A tragic road accident in Pune's industrial belt claimed two lives and left two others seriously injured on Thursday morning. The collision between an autorickshaw and a cold storage container truck occurred in the Mahalunge MIDC area, disrupting rush hour traffic.
Details of the Fatal Collision
The accident took place around 7:30 am on the busy Chakan-Talegaon Road. According to Senior Police Inspector Digambar Suryavanshi of the Mahalunge MIDC police station, the autorickshaw was carrying four passengers who were commuting to their workplace when it rammed into the truck.
Two passengers died on the spot from the impact of the crash. In a fortunate turn, a third passenger managed to leap out of the moving auto-rickshaw moments before the collision and escaped without any physical harm.
Victims Identified, Investigation Underway
The police have identified the deceased as Ramsundar Sakeet (47), who worked as a security guard, and Pintu Vihira (25), a company worker. The injured include the autorickshaw driver, Rohidas Ade (36), and another passenger, Sagar Monti (26). Both have been admitted to a local hospital for treatment.
Authorities have registered a case of causing death by negligence against the truck driver. "Our investigations into the exact cause of the crash are on," Inspector Suryavanshi added, confirming that the probe is active.
Traffic Chaos and Police Response
The severe collision led to significant traffic congestion on the crucial Talegaon-Chakan road during the morning rush hour. Police teams arrived promptly at the scene to manage the situation and clear the wreckage.
"We removed the damaged vehicles from the spot, and traffic flow was subsequently restored," the officer confirmed. The quick action helped normalize the movement on the key industrial corridor, which is typically heavy with vehicular flow during commute hours.
This incident highlights the recurring issue of road safety on busy industrial routes around Pune, where mixed traffic often leads to such tragic outcomes.
