In a significant crackdown on narcotics smuggling, the Kota Rural police on Thursday seized a massive consignment of illegal drugs and arrested two individuals during a routine vehicle check on a national highway.
Major Narcotics Haul During Highway Check
The operation unfolded under the jurisdiction of the Kanwas police station on the busy Kota-Jhalawar national highway. Acting on vigilance, police personnel intercepted a suspicious Maruti Swift car near the Kanwas tri-junction. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a large quantity of an illegal substance.
The police confiscated 116.58 kilograms of doda chura, a narcotic powder. Authorities estimate the street value of the seized contraband to be approximately Rs 20 lakh in the international market.
Arrests and Vehicle Impounded
The two occupants of the car were immediately taken into custody. They have been identified as Arjun Ram alias Arjun (33), a resident of Jodhpur district, and Dhanaram (28) from Nagaur district. The police also seized the vehicle used in the alleged smuggling attempt, which bore the registration number DL8C AW 9869.
Superintendent of Police (SP) for Kota Rural, Sujit Shankar, confirmed the details of the arrest and the seizure, highlighting the success of the proactive checking drive.
Case Registered and Investigation Ongoing
Following the bust, the Kota Rural police have formally registered a case against the two accused under the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The investigation into the matter is actively underway, with officials working to uncover the source, destination, and potential network behind this smuggling operation.
This seizure marks a substantial achievement for the local police in their ongoing efforts to combat the trafficking of illegal drugs through the region.
