UPPCL Chairman Issues Directives for Summer Power Preparedness and Revenue Recovery
In a crucial review meeting held on Wednesday, Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) Chairman Ashish Kumar Goel issued a series of directives to power distribution companies (discoms) to ensure robust system maintenance and enhanced revenue collection in anticipation of the upcoming summer season.
Strict Enforcement of System Maintenance
Chairman Goel emphasized the critical need for timely completion of all maintenance work, specifically targeting transformers and power lines. He warned that any transformer failures resulting from negligence would lead to strict accountability and immediate action against responsible personnel. Officials were instructed to prioritize the installation of safety equipment and maintain an uninterrupted power supply as per the scheduled timelines.
Revenue Collection and Consumer Engagement
On the financial front, Goel directed officials to identify underperforming personnel across all discoms and initiate appropriate actions following a comprehensive review scheduled for early April. A significant focus was placed on improving electricity bill recovery rates.
- Discoms are to proactively contact consumers regarding outstanding dues and issue warnings about possible disconnection in cases of non-payment.
- Consumers enrolled in relief schemes who fail to pay their instalments will also be contacted for recovery purposes.
Addressing Smart Meter and Billing Issues
The chairman mandated the prompt resolution of smart meter-related issues, including ensuring seamless reconnection after recharge. Complaints related to billing are to be reviewed regularly, and the verification of consumer mobile numbers through OTP is to be strictly enforced to enhance security and accuracy.
Combating Power Theft
To prevent power theft, inspection drives will be conducted at premises that have been disconnected. Legal action will be pursued in cases where violations are detected, reinforcing the corporation's commitment to curbing losses and ensuring fair distribution.
These measures are part of UPPCL's broader strategy to ensure reliable power supply during the peak summer demand period while strengthening financial discipline and operational efficiency across the state's power distribution network.
