Uttar Pradesh Implements Digital Surveillance for 5,446 Cow Shelters
In a significant move to enhance oversight and welfare, the state of Uttar Pradesh has implemented a comprehensive digital surveillance system for its cow shelters. A total of 5,446 shelters across the state have been connected with 7,592 cameras, enabling round-the-clock monitoring to ensure proper management and care.
Continuous Monitoring for Key Welfare Aspects
According to Mukesh Meshram, Additional Chief Secretary of the Animal Husbandry Department, this system allows for continuous surveillance of critical arrangements. "Through this technology, we are maintaining a watch on fodder supply, health conditions, cleanliness standards, and security measures at the shelters," Meshram stated. "This ensures immediate action can be taken against any negligence, thereby strengthening administrative accountability."
Operational Command and Control Rooms
The digital surveillance infrastructure is currently operational through command and control rooms in 56 districts of Uttar Pradesh. From these centers, officials monitor the live feeds from the installed cameras, enabling swift decision-making during emergencies. "The technology is proving extremely effective in responding quickly to urgent situations," Meshram added, highlighting how it boosts both transparency and public trust.
Expansion Plans and Funding
To achieve statewide coverage, control rooms will soon be established in the remaining 19 districts. This expansion will be funded through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds, aiming to develop an integrated and robust surveillance system across the entire state. Meshram emphasized that this initiative will lead to a more cohesive monitoring framework.
Administrative Directives for Maintenance
The Additional Chief Secretary has issued directives to all district authorities to ensure regular monitoring of the shelters via CCTV cameras. Officials are instructed to:
- Conduct immediate repairs in case of any camera malfunctions.
- Perform periodic site inspections to assess conditions.
- Further improve arrangements at the shelters based on surveillance insights.
This proactive approach is designed to maintain the system's effectiveness and uphold the welfare standards for the animals housed in these shelters.
