Major Administrative Reshuffle in Uttar Pradesh: 61 IAS Officers Transferred
In a significant administrative overhaul spanning Sunday and Monday, the Uttar Pradesh government has executed a large-scale transfer of 61 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers. This sweeping move has resulted in the appointment of 25 new district magistrates across the state, marking one of the most extensive posting exercises witnessed in recent months.
Two-Part Transfer Orders and Key Appointments
The reshuffle was conducted through two separate lists issued by the state government. The first list, released late on Sunday, detailed 38 transfers, which included the repositioning of 15 district magistrates. This was followed by a second list on Monday, outlining 23 new postings, with 10 additional DMs being reassigned.
Among the notable changes, Ayodhya has welcomed a new District Magistrate, Shashank Tripathi. A 2016 batch officer, Tripathi previously served as the DM of Barabanki before his latest assignment. In another high-profile shift, Inderjit Singh, the former municipal commissioner of Lucknow and incumbent special secretary for energy, has been appointed as the new DM of Sultanpur.
Strategic Postings in Key Departments
The transfers extend beyond district administrations to crucial state departments. Arvind Malappa Bangri and Nikhil Tikaram Funde have been appointed as special secretaries to the Chief Minister, positioning them in influential advisory roles.
In the power sector, Nitish Kumar has taken over as the Managing Director of the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited, while Shruti assumes the role of MD for the Dakshinanchal Power Supply Corporation. The transport department sees Ashutosh Niranjan stepping in as the new transport commissioner, replacing Kinjal Singh, who has been reassigned as secretary of Secondary Education.
Promotions and new responsibilities have been awarded to several officers. Durga Shakti Nagpal, previously the DM of Lakhimpur Kheri, has been promoted to divisional commissioner of Devipatan. Shashi Bhushan Lal Sushil is now the principal secretary for MSME, and Ravindar Singh has been appointed as special secretary for power and additional sources of power.
Diverse Sectoral Appointments
The reshuffle encompasses a wide array of governmental functions:
- Jhansi DM Mridul Chaudhary transitions to special secretary for tourism.
- Ashwani Kumar Pandey is posted as director of minority welfare.
- Harshita Mathur becomes the new director of child development and nutrition.
- Anita Verma Singh takes charge as special secretary for food and logistics.
Additional significant postings include:
- Prem Ranjan Singh as additional state project director for Sarv Shiksha Mission.
- Abhishek Pandey appointed as additional commissioner for land administration.
- Sanjeev Ranjan posted as special secretary for agriculture.
- J Reebha given charge as special secretary of geology and mining.
Further appointments see Ashutosh Kumar Dwivedi as special secretary for PWD, Badri Narayan Singh as special secretary for higher education, Diksha Jain as additional CEO of UP State Industrial Development Authority, and Aparajita Singh Sinsiwar as vice chairperson of the Bulandshahr Khurja Development Authority. Pranata Aishwarya assumes the role of vice-chairperson for the Muzaffarnagar Development Authority.

Furthermore, Isha Priya has been transferred to Hapur as DM, while Charchit Gaur is the new DM of Sonbhadra, Anupam Shukla of Ghazipur, and Ishan Pratap Singh of Barabanki.
