At a formal ceremony to inaugurate Fire Safety Week, which runs from April 14 to April 20, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Rajeev Krishna were presented with ceremonial flag pins by the Director-General of Fire Services, Sujeet Kumar Pandey. This symbolic gesture officially commenced the statewide initiative aimed at promoting fire safety awareness and preparedness among citizens.
Statewide Events and This Year's Focus
The fire department has orchestrated a diverse series of events across Uttar Pradesh to highlight the courage and unwavering commitment of fire service personnel. A special emphasis for this year's campaign revolves around the critical theme: “Safe Schools, Safe Hospitals, and a Fire-Safe Society.” This focus underscores the importance of safeguarding vulnerable institutions and fostering a culture of safety throughout communities.
Tributes to Fallen Heroes and Public Outreach
At the historic Hazratganj Fire Station in Lucknow, Director-General Sujeet Kumar Pandey paid solemn tributes at the martyrs’ memorial. This act honored the ultimate sacrifice of 66 firefighters who tragically lost their lives in the devastating 1944 Mumbai dock explosion, a poignant reminder of the risks faced by emergency responders.
As a core component of Fire Safety Week, the Uttar Pradesh Fire and Emergency Services will conduct extensive mock drills and public outreach programs statewide. These initiatives are designed to actively promote emergency preparedness, educate the public on risk mitigation strategies, and significantly minimize fire-related hazards and casualties across the region.
