UP Empowers Women: 1.75 Lakh Jobs, Financial Aid, Safety

Uttar Pradesh Government's Comprehensive Push for Women Empowerment

The Uttar Pradesh government announced on Wednesday a significant milestone in its women empowerment initiatives, revealing that over 1.75 lakh women have been provided government jobs over the past nine years. This employment drive is part of a broader, multi-faceted strategy aimed at enhancing access to education, financial assistance, and livelihood opportunities for women across the state.

Flagship Financial Support Schemes for Girls and Women

Under its flagship welfare programs, the state government is extending financial support at multiple critical stages of a girl child's life. The Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangala Yojana offers cumulative assistance of Rs 25,000 from birth through graduation, ensuring continuous support for educational and developmental needs. For marriage, the Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana provides Rs 1 lakh per marriage, with officials reporting that approximately 5 lakh marriages have been conducted under this scheme to date.

Entrepreneurship and Safety Initiatives

To foster economic independence, the government has allocated budgetary provisions for the Mahila Udyami Scheme, designed to promote women entrepreneurship by offering resources and training. Concurrently, Mission Shakti is being actively implemented to ensure the safety, dignity, and self-reliance of women, addressing issues like harassment and providing support systems for empowerment.

Pension Support and Educational Incentives

In a move to support vulnerable groups, over 1.06 crore families are receiving an annual pension of Rs 12,000 for destitute women, elderly individuals, and persons with disabilities, providing a financial safety net. To encourage higher education among girls, the government plans to distribute scooters to meritorious students pursuing graduation and postgraduation degrees, facilitating easier access to educational institutions and reducing dropout rates.

Officials emphasized that these initiatives are interconnected, forming a holistic approach to uplift women through job creation, financial aid, safety measures, and educational support, ultimately aiming to transform their socio-economic status in Uttar Pradesh.
