TNSTC Coimbatore Division Mobilizes 390 Special Buses for Major Temple Festivals
The Coimbatore division of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) has launched a comprehensive transport initiative, deploying a total of 390 special buses to facilitate travel for devotees attending two significant religious events in the state. This strategic move aims to ensure smooth and safe transportation for pilgrims during the bustling festival season.
Enhanced Services for Bannari Amman Temple Kundam Festival
In response to the Kundam festival at the Bannari Amman Temple in Erode district, transport officials have been proactive. Since March 30, 240 special buses have been operational, specifically catering to passengers from Coimbatore, Tirupur, the Nilgiris, and Erode regions. Officials reported that approximately 1,100 trips, encompassing both departures and arrivals, have been conducted as part of these special services. Additionally, plans are in place for the Maru Pooja scheduled on April 6 at Bannari, with further bus arrangements to be made to accommodate the expected influx of devotees.
Preparations for Panguni Uthiram Festival in Palani
For the Panguni Uthiram festival at the Arulmigu Dhandayuthapani Swamy Temple in Palani, Dindigul district, the TNSTC has readied 150 special buses. With the temple car festival (therottam) set for April 1, around 500 trips are planned from four key regions. Officials noted that since April 1 falls on a working day, the crowd traveling from Coimbatore to Palani is anticipated to be relatively lower. However, bus operations will be dynamically adjusted based on passenger turnout on Wednesday morning, with additional services kept on standby to handle any surge in demand.
Safety Measures for Pilgrims on Foot
The number of devotees undertaking padayatra (foot pilgrimage) from Coimbatore to Palani has seen a notable increase along routes such as Trichy Road and Pollachi Road. Pilgrims are also walking via Sulur and Sencheriputhur. In light of this, transport officials have issued strict instructions to drivers to operate vehicles slowly and with caution along these pilgrimage paths. This precautionary measure is designed to prioritize the safety of devotees and prevent any accidents during the festive period.
