Thane District Administration Concludes Preparatory Training for Historic Digital Census 2027
The Thane district administration has successfully concluded its comprehensive preparatory phase for India's inaugural fully digital census scheduled for 2027. This landmark initiative marks a significant shift from traditional paper-based methods to a streamlined digital framework, aimed at enhancing efficiency and accuracy in national data collection.
Inauguration of Training Programme for Field Trainers
On April 6, a specialized training programme for field trainers was officially inaugurated, signaling the commencement of the pre-enumeration exercise. This programme is strategically designed to build a robust technical workforce capable of managing the sophisticated demands of the upcoming digital census operations.
The entire preparation has been meticulously planned and executed under the expert guidance of District Collector Dr. Srikrishna Panchal. The inauguration ceremony was graced by the presence of Tehsildar (General Administration) Sachin Chaudhar, underscoring the administrative commitment to this national endeavor.
Supervision and Training Details
Deputy Collector Rupali Bhalke provided diligent supervision throughout the process, with a primary focus on ensuring the precise and accurate dissemination of critical information to all enumerators. According to official reports, a total of 64 field trainers have undergone intensive training, organized into two batches of 32 participants each.
The training sessions, which concluded recently, were conducted under the proficient guidance of master trainers Vinod Bhamre, Tehsildar (Non-Agricultural) from Kalyan, and Swati Ghongde, Tehsildar (Municipal Area). These sessions concentrated extensively on the first phase of Census 2027, which involves house listing and housing enumeration.
Transition to Digital Tools and Applications
With the transition to a fully digital format, enumerators will abandon traditional paper forms in favor of advanced digital platforms. Specifically, they will utilize the CMMS portal and the HLBC mobile application for all data collection activities. The training provided hands-on experience with these applications, coupled with comprehensive inputs on census laws, regulations, and standardized data collection procedures.
These newly trained field trainers are now tasked with a crucial responsibility: they will prepare nearly 4,000 enumerators and supervisors across nine administrative charges within the Thane district. This subsequent training phase is scheduled to take place between April 27 and May 8, ensuring a well-coordinated rollout.
Emphasis on Accuracy and Transparency
Highlighting the paramount importance of data accuracy, District Collector Dr. Srikrishna Panchal expressed strong confidence that the adoption of digital tools will significantly enhance transparency throughout the data collection process. This digital approach is expected to minimize errors and improve the reliability of the census data.
Innovative Self-Enumeration Feature
In a groundbreaking development, for the first time in India's census history, citizens will have the option to participate in self-enumeration. Individuals can log into the official government portal and submit their details independently during the period from May 1 to May 15. This feature aims to increase convenience and public participation.
Schedule for Field-Level Exercises
The field-level exercise for house listing and housing census is set to be conducted from May 16 to June 14. The district administration has affirmed that all necessary efforts are being mobilized to ensure comprehensive coverage, with no area left unaccounted for, and to complete the data collection within the stipulated timeframe.
