Navi Mumbai Deploys Advanced Robotic Watercrafts for Enhanced Beach Security
In a significant move to bolster coastal safety, Navi Mumbai has introduced state-of-the-art robotic watercrafts named "Robo Security" at three prominent beaches: Nagaon in Alibag taluka, Kashid in Murud, and Harihareshwar in Shrivardhan. This innovative initiative, formally launched through a joint effort by the district disaster management authority and the Nagaon gram panchayat, aims to provide critical security support and emergency assistance, particularly during the monsoon season when risks are heightened.
Robo Security: A Lifesaving Remote-Operated Buoy
A district disaster management official highlighted the capabilities of the robotic watercraft, stating, "This is a remote-operated buoy designed to prevent drowning incidents and safely bring individuals back to the coast." The device, which can be operated remotely, has been tested in sea conditions amidst water sports activities, demonstrating its effectiveness in real-world scenarios. At an event held at Nagaon beach, sarpanch Harshada Mayekar witnessed the robotic watercraft in action, underscoring its potential to reduce the number of drowning incidents frequently reported at district beaches.
Comprehensive Safety Equipment Distribution
Alongside the deployment of Robo Security, the Raigad district planning department and the district disaster management authority have distributed a wide array of security items to enhance emergency preparedness. The distribution program, organized at the district police headquarters and represented by three police officers and personnel from all police stations, included:
- 125 search lights for improved visibility during night operations.
- 45 megaphones to facilitate clear communication in emergencies.
- 500-meter long ropes and 25 rescue rope guns for swift water rescues.
- Three modern drones for aerial surveillance and assessment.
- 1,000 fluorescent jackets to ensure high visibility for rescue teams.
- 30 night vision binoculars for enhanced monitoring in low-light conditions.
- 150 body bags and 50 disaster management rescue kits for handling critical situations.
- 30 emergency lights and dry chemical powder for fire fighting, adding to overall safety measures.
- 50 tool boxes to support maintenance and repair tasks during emergencies.
These items were allocated among the 28 police stations and 10 police outposts across the district, ensuring that local authorities are well-equipped to respond to disasters and security threats effectively.
Expected Impact on Beach Safety
With the introduction of Robo Security and the extensive distribution of safety equipment, officials anticipate a notable decline in drowning incidents and other emergencies at Navi Mumbai's beaches. This proactive approach not only enhances immediate response capabilities but also fosters a safer environment for residents and tourists alike, setting a precedent for coastal security initiatives in the region.
