Central Railway Ticket Inspectors Collect Massive Fines From Ticketless Travelers

In a remarkable display of enforcement efficiency, four members of the ticket-checking staff from the Central Railway's Bhusawal Division have each collected over Rs1 crore in fines from ticketless travelers during the 2025-26 fiscal year. With 11 days still remaining in the current financial year, five additional staff members are reportedly nearing the 1-crore mark each, highlighting a significant crackdown on unauthorized rail travel.

Top Performers in Revenue Collection

The standout performer is Nisar Khan, a Ticket Traveling Inspector (TTI), who has collected a staggering Rs1.47 crore in revenue from fines. He is closely followed by SK Gupta, a chief ticket inspector, with Rs1.16 crore. KK Patel has secured Rs1.02 crore, while DN Chaudhary, another chief ticket inspector, has collected exactly Rs1 crore. These figures represent substantial contributions to railway revenue through strict enforcement of ticketing regulations.

Railway's Stance on Ticketless Travel

A senior official from the Bhusawal Division explained the context behind these collections. "We have introduced a large number of trains, including many special services, to ensure passengers can reach their destinations comfortably. However, some individuals still board without valid tickets or occupy unauthorized coaches. Our ticket checking staffers have been diligent in ensuring these passengers pay the requisite fines for unauthorized or illegal travel," the official stated.

Railway authorities have renewed their appeal to the public, urging passengers to travel only with valid tickets to avoid heavy penalties. The message is clear: compliance with ticketing rules is essential to avoid financial consequences.

Rise in Fraudulent Activities

Beyond simple ticketless travel, officials have noted an alarming increase in cases involving fraudulent activity. "We have encountered instances of passengers using fake tickets or traveling on tickets issued to someone else. Despite it being common knowledge that train tickets are non-transferable and require valid identification, people continue to risk traveling under other names," the officer added. This trend underscores the need for heightened vigilance and stricter verification processes at railway stations.

Impact on Railway Operations

The substantial fine collections highlight several key aspects of railway management:

  • Revenue Generation: The fines contribute significantly to the railway's financial health, helping fund infrastructure and service improvements.
  • Deterrence Effect: High penalties serve as a strong deterrent against ticketless travel, encouraging more passengers to purchase valid tickets.
  • Staff Performance: The achievements of these ticket inspectors demonstrate exceptional dedication and effectiveness in their roles.
  • Public Awareness: The publicity around these fines raises awareness about the importance of adhering to ticketing rules.

As the fiscal year draws to a close, railway officials anticipate that the remaining days may see even higher collections, with the five additional staff members potentially crossing the Rs1 crore threshold. This ongoing effort reflects the Central Railway's commitment to maintaining order and fairness in passenger travel, ensuring that resources are properly allocated and services remain accessible to all legitimate travelers.
