Punjab Govt Expands Pilgrimage Scheme to Hindu Sites

In a strategic move ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab expanded its pilgrimage scheme on Saturday to include several prominent Hindu religious destinations. The announcement was made by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal during a state-level religious event titled 'Ek Shaam Bhagwan Shiv Ji Ke Naam' organized at the PITEX ground in Ranjit Avenue, Amritsar, in collaboration with the Sanatan Sevi Samiti.

Expanded Pilgrimage Destinations Under the Scheme

Under the expanded Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme, devotees can now undertake pilgrimages to Haridwar-Rishikesh, Mathura-Vrindavan, Mata Naina Devi temple, and Salasar-Khatu Shyam. Previously, the scheme was limited to the Golden Temple and Anandpur Sahib only. This expansion is seen as an effort to appeal to Hindu voters in the state.

Redevelopment and New Temple Construction

The leaders also announced that the historic Kali Mata Temple in Patiala would be redeveloped at an estimated cost of around Rs 80 crore. Additionally, a new temple dedicated to Mata Sita and Luv-Kush will be constructed close to Sri Valmiki Tirath Sathal in Amritsar. These projects aim to enhance religious infrastructure and promote cultural heritage.
