District Magistrate of Patna, Thiyagarajan S M, conducted a comprehensive inspection of Gandhi Maidan on Saturday to assess the ongoing preparations for the upcoming Republic Day celebrations. The visit aimed to ensure all arrangements are in place for a smooth and secure event.
Multi-Zone Management and Security Blueprint
The administration has meticulously organised the vast venue into four distinct zones, each placed under the charge of an Additional District Magistrate and an Additional Police Superintendent. A dedicated sub-committee, operating round-the-clock under the leadership of the Deputy Development Commissioner, is overseeing the on-ground execution of all plans.
Security has been given paramount importance. The integrated setup will feature a robust network of 128 CCTV cameras and 18 watchtowers for constant surveillance. A temporary police station and an on-site control room will be established, with the control room directly linked to the city's Integrated Command and Control Centre for coordinated monitoring.
Infrastructure and Civic Amenities in Focus
Significant efforts are underway to ensure the venue is well-equipped and visitor-friendly. The lighting plan includes the installation of 136 LED metal lights, 15 high-mast lights, and 229 pole lights to illuminate the grounds. The Building Construction Department is handling barricading and ground levelling work.
The Patna Municipal Corporation has taken responsibility for sanitation and drainage management. To cater to the needs of the public, the Public Health Engineering Department will deploy water tankers, and ATM facilities will be made available at the site.
Logistics, Rehearsals, and Inclusive Celebrations
Parade rehearsals are set to commence on Sunday, with the final full-dress rehearsal scheduled for January 24 at 9:00 AM. The Traffic Superintendent of Police is finalising detailed traffic management and parking plans to handle the expected crowds.
Emergency services will be on standby with medical teams, ambulances, and two fire tenders stationed at the maidan. In a notable guideline, the height of tableaux participating in the parade has been restricted to 15 feet.
In a move towards inclusive celebration, flag-hoisting ceremonies will also be organised in Mahadalit settlements across the district. In a touching tradition, the eldest member of each community will be given the honour of leading the ceremony in their respective areas.
