Odisha Government Announces Minor IAS Reshuffle with Additional Charges
In a recent administrative move, the Odisha government has implemented a minor reshuffle within the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) cadre, assigning additional responsibilities to key officers. This reshuffle, announced on Tuesday, aims to streamline departmental functions and ensure efficient governance across various sectors.
Key Appointments and Additional Charges
The reshuffle includes significant changes in the excise and tourism departments. RS Gopalan, who currently serves as the Chief Electoral Officer of Odisha, has been given the additional charge of Excise Secretary. In this new role, Gopalan will also hold the additional position of Chairman of the Odisha State Beverages Corporation Limited, enhancing his oversight in the state's excise and beverage management.
Meanwhile, Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma, the existing Excise Secretary, will continue in his primary role as Secretary of the Forests, Environment and Climate Change Department. Sarma had previously held the additional charge of this department, and this arrangement remains unchanged, ensuring continuity in environmental governance.
Tourism Department Adjustments
In the tourism sector, Balwant Singh, the Tourism Secretary, has been assigned the additional charge of Chairperson of the Odisha State Highway Authority (OSHA). This move comes after the cancellation of his earlier additional role as Managing Director of OSHA, reflecting a strategic shift in responsibilities to focus on highway development and infrastructure projects.
These appointments are part of the government's ongoing efforts to optimize administrative efficiency and address departmental needs. The reshuffle is expected to bolster coordination between excise, environment, and tourism sectors, contributing to improved public service delivery in Odisha.
The government has not announced any further changes at this time, but such minor reshuffles are common to adapt to evolving administrative demands and ensure effective leadership across key departments.
