Noida Residents Protest Unauthorized Borewell Pump, Fear Water Crisis
Residents of Sector 78 in Noida have raised serious concerns about an unauthorized borewell pump allegedly being operated for commercial purposes opposite the Sector 101 metro station. The issue has been formally escalated to the Noida Authority CEO, with local residents demanding immediate intervention to address the growing threat to their water supply.
Illegal Nurseries and Groundwater Extraction
The complaint highlights that several unauthorized nurseries have emerged in the area, illegally occupying public land and extracting groundwater for commercial use. This activity not only violates local regulations but also poses a significant risk to the water availability for nearby housing societies. As summer temperatures rise, fears of a deepening water crisis are mounting among the community.
Ranjan Samantaray, a resident of Antriksh Golf View 2 in Sector 78, emphasized that the encroachment impacts over 20,000 residents in the region. "These private nurseries are tapping into groundwater sources for commercial use, thereby compromising the water supply designated for local housing societies," he stated.
Residents Voice Concerns Over Water Shortages
Another resident, Brijesh Sharma, echoed these sentiments, pointing out the increased water demand during the summer months. "Many residential societies are already facing severe shortages. The diversion of water resources through unauthorized activities not only complicates an already critical situation but also significantly inconveniences residents who rely on the public distribution system," Sharma added.
In their formal letter to the Noida Authority, residents have outlined specific recommendations for action, including:
- Conducting thorough inspections of the borewell pump house
- Dismantling all illegal encroachments in the area
- Implementing stringent measures against those profiting from the misuse of water resources
Call for Fair Water Distribution
Samantaray stressed the importance of ensuring fair and adequate access to water for all residential societies in the vicinity. "As the summer heat continues, effective intervention before the water crisis deepens is the need of the hour. We hope that the water department of Noida Authority will take decisive action to rectify the situation, uphold public resource integrity, and guarantee equitable distribution of water," he said.
The Noida Authority has yet to respond to the complaint, leaving residents anxiously awaiting official action to protect their water resources.
