Noida Authority Grants In-Principle Approval for Noise Barriers on MP2 Elevated Road
In a significant move to address long-standing noise pollution concerns, the Noida Authority has granted in-principle approval for the installation of noise barriers along the MP2 elevated road. This decision comes after sustained demands from residents dating back to 2017 and follows a formal acknowledgment from the senior manager of work circle 2, highlighting the urgent need to mitigate noise on this busy stretch.
Background and Resident Concerns
The 5-kilometer stretch connecting sectors 18 and 61 along Vishwakarma Marg has been a major source of distress due to heavy traffic noise. Residents, including Pushkar Chandna, have been raising the issue since 2017, citing serious health impacts. "The approval is a relief. People living along the road have been facing serious health issues due to constant noise," said Chandna. Another resident, Rakhi Sinha from Sector 28, noted that prolonged exposure has led to hearing issues, disturbed sleep, and reduced work efficiency, particularly affecting senior citizens.
Noise Pollution Data and Regulatory Standards
According to a UP Pollution Control Board report dated March 3, 2025, noise levels along the stretch ranged from 70.1 dB(A) to 72.5 dB(A). These figures significantly exceed the permissible limits set by the Central Pollution Control Board, which are 55 dB(A) during the day and 45 dB(A) at night in residential areas. This data underscores the critical need for intervention to protect public health and well-being.
Next Steps and Implementation Process
The proposal will now undergo a series of technical and financial evaluations before implementation. Officials have forwarded the plan to the technical advisory committee for cost estimate assessment. Based on their recommendations, subsequent administrative and financial approvals will be sought. Once these are in place, the project will proceed to tendering, marking a crucial step toward reducing noise pollution in the area.
Impact and Future Outlook
This approval is seen as a positive step toward enhancing the quality of life for residents along the MP2 elevated road. By addressing noise pollution, the Noida Authority aims to mitigate health risks and improve overall community well-being. The move reflects a responsive approach to civic issues, with potential benefits for urban planning and environmental management in Noida.
