Nellore Collector Intervenes to Restore Woman's Home After Moneylender's Coercion
In a significant act of administrative intervention, Nellore district collector Himanshu Shukla has successfully restored a woman's home after she endured months of struggle against an alleged moneylender's coercion and illegal occupation. A Harrowing Tale of Debt and Displacement
Peram Vijayakumari, a resident of Shantinagar in Buchireddipalem, Nellore district, recounted a distressing ordeal that began with a family loan. Her parents borrowed ₹70,000 from local moneylender Nakka Lellayya to fund her brother's marriage. Following their deaths, Vijayakumari alleged that the lender manipulated her into signing documents that inflated the debt to a staggering ₹3 lakh.
For nearly three years, she made monthly interest payments of ₹9,000, totaling approximately ₹3 lakh, yet the moneylender demanded an additional ₹50,000. Compounding her misery, he refused to return her house papers and forcibly occupied the property, leaving Vijayakumari and her children without shelter for the past four months.
Swift Action by District Collector
Desperate for relief, Vijayakumari approached district collector Himanshu Shukla, who was moved by her plight and promptly ordered an inquiry. Officials conducted a thorough investigation, found substantial merit in her complaint, and submitted a detailed report. Based on these findings, Shukla directed the encroacher to vacate the premises immediately and personally oversaw the handover of the house to its rightful owner.
Expressing immense relief, Vijayakumari stated, "Justice has finally been done. I can now live in my own home again with my children. I will remain thankful to the collector all my life." Her words reflect the profound impact of timely administrative action in restoring dignity and security to affected families.
Strict Warning Against Illegal Moneylending
In response to this incident, Collector Shukla issued a stern warning against illegal moneylending practices in the region. He emphasized that harassment, coercion, and property seizures under the guise of loan recovery would not be tolerated.
