Nashik Police Commissionerate Clinches Top Position in Maharashtra's E-Governance Initiative

The Nashik Police Commissionerate has emerged as the undisputed leader in the Maharashtra state government's ambitious 150-day e-governance reform programme, according to senior police officials. This remarkable achievement was formally acknowledged during the Republic Day function held at the Police Parade Ground on Monday, where State Cabinet Minister Girish Mahajan personally felicitated Police Commissioner Sandeep Karnik along with other senior officers of the commissionerate.

Excellence in Digital Transformation

In a comprehensive assessment conducted by the Quality Council of India, the Nashik Police Commissionerate scored an impressive 156.25 marks out of a possible 200, securing the top position among all twelve police commissionerates across Maharashtra. The evaluation was based on multiple critical parameters including website compliance, Aaple Sarkar e-office compliance, dashboard compliance, WhatsApp chatbot implementation, A/Blockchain compliance, and GIS compliance.

The Thane Police Commissionerate followed closely with 146.75 marks, while the Nagpur Police Commissionerate secured third position with 146 marks. This competitive ranking system has motivated police departments throughout the state to enhance their digital infrastructure and citizen service delivery mechanisms.

Commitment to Citizen-Centric Policing

Senior police officers emphasized that their primary objective is to continually improve online services, thereby reducing the need for citizens to physically visit police stations or offices for services that can be efficiently delivered through digital platforms. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Kirankumar Chavan highlighted that under Commissioner Sandeep Karnik's visionary leadership, the Nashik City Police have been making sincere and dedicated efforts to provide the best possible services to citizens.

Commissioner Karnik has consistently focused on gathering direct feedback from citizens regarding their expectations from the police force. Shortly after assuming charge as Nashik's Police Commissioner, he initiated a proactive feedback mechanism through X (formerly Twitter), which received overwhelming response from the community.

Innovative Communication Channels

Building upon this success, Commissioner Karnik launched a dedicated WhatsApp number in the last week of December 2023 to engage with citizens who might not be active on social media platforms. This multi-channel approach ensures that feedback reaches the police department from diverse segments of the population.

In another innovative initiative introduced a few months later, Karnik launched the 'Walk with the Police' program—a unique mode of communication that brings police officers directly to citizens during their morning routines. With approximately forty jogging tracks across Nashik city, police officers including Deputy Commissioners of Police regularly interact with morning walkers, engaging in informal conversations that eventually help identify community concerns and complaints.

This ground-level engagement complements the digital initiatives, creating a comprehensive framework for responsive policing. The combination of technological advancement and personal interaction has positioned the Nashik Police Commissionerate as a model for modern, citizen-friendly law enforcement in Maharashtra.
