Nashik Municipal Corporation Initiates Road Demarcation to Safeguard Future Infrastructure
The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has launched a significant initiative to prevent encroachment on land designated for future road infrastructure. This proactive measure involves demarcating the alignment of roads proposed in the Development Plan (DP) that was approved by the state government in 2017.
Comprehensive Ground Survey to Mark Road Boundaries
NMC Commissioner Manisha Khatri has announced that a comprehensive ground survey will be conducted to identify and mark the exact width and boundaries of all planned DP roads. This step is crucial for regulating construction activities and ensuring that the land reserved for road expansion remains free from illegal occupation.
The primary objective is to clearly demarcate the roads from both sides, allowing for surrounding development while protecting the alignment earmarked for future road infrastructure. Officials emphasize that this approach will help maintain the implementability of DP roads when financial resources become available.
Financial Challenges of Unacquired Reservations
The Development Plan includes 540 reservations for public amenities such as parks, playgrounds, hospitals, roads, and other essential infrastructure. However, 425 of these reservations remain unacquired, posing a substantial financial burden for the municipal corporation.
Under the land acquisition law of 2013, the civic body is required to compensate landowners at twice the market value. Preliminary estimates indicate that acquiring all pending reservations would cost the NMC over Rs5,000 crore. A significant portion of these pending reservations pertains to the DP road network, highlighting the urgency of the demarcation efforts.
