Bengaluru's Namma Metro Pink Line Prepares for Key RDSO Safety Trials
The highly anticipated Pink Line of Bengaluru's Namma Metro is on the brink of undergoing critical Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) trials, as authorities target a mid-2026 operational rollout. According to a BMRCL official, these mandatory safety and performance assessments could commence before the end of the month, pending final formalities, with the inspection process expected to take at least two weeks to complete.
Infrastructure and Timeline Details
Spanning 21 kilometers, the Pink Line corridor features a significant 13km underground segment connecting Dairy Circle and Nagawara. While the elevated stretch between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere is projected to open by mid-2026, the full corridor is scheduled for completion only by December 2026. This phased approach aims to gradually enhance Bengaluru's urban transit network.
Rolling Stock and Operational Plans
In preparation for the launch, Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) has already delivered four trainsets to the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL). Initially, the elevated section of the Pink Line is expected to operate with 4-5 trainsets, ensuring efficient service as the metro expands its reach across the city.
RDSO trials are a compulsory step for all Metro systems in India, designed to verify that new rolling stock and infrastructure meet stringent operational and safety standards before public commissioning. These tests play a vital role in ensuring passenger security and system reliability, aligning with national guidelines for urban rail projects.
As Bengaluru continues to address its growing transportation needs, the progress on the Pink Line marks a significant milestone in the city's infrastructure development, promising improved connectivity and reduced congestion upon completion.
