Mysuru's Major Infrastructure Push: New KSRTC Bus Terminal Underway at Banni Mantap
In a significant move to alleviate traffic congestion in Mysuru's central business district, district minister HC Mahadevappa conducted a detailed inspection of the under-construction KSRTC bus terminal at Banni Mantap on Saturday. The state government is spearheading this ambitious project, which involves utilizing a portion of the existing KSRTC bus depot to create a modern, dedicated facility.
Project Overview and Strategic Goals
The primary objective of this new terminal is to decongest the current KSRTC suburban bus stand located on the busy Bengaluru–Nilgiris road. By shifting long-distance inter-state buses, particularly those bound for Bengaluru, along with various intra-state services, the authorities aim to streamline traffic flow and enhance passenger convenience in the heart of the city.
The government is investing a substantial Rs 120 crore into this infrastructure initiative. During his visit, Minister Mahadevappa revealed that approximately 30% of the civil works have already been completed. He issued strict instructions to officials, emphasizing the need to adhere to the March 2027 deadline without compromising on quality.
"The project must be finished on time, with no room for complaints regarding substandard or poor-quality work," the minister asserted, underscoring the importance of durability and excellence in public infrastructure.
Facilities and Land Allocation
The new bus terminal is being developed on 14 acres of land out of the total 65 acres available at the Banni Mantap bus depot. This spacious setup is designed to incorporate a range of modern amenities to improve the travel experience for commuters.

During the inspection, KSRTC divisional controller Srinivas highlighted a critical infrastructure gap: the need for a 100-feet wide road to facilitate smooth entry and exit movements for KSRTC buses. The existing road connecting to the depot is currently congested, posing potential operational hurdles once the terminal becomes operational.
In response, Minister Mahadevappa directed the divisional controller to prepare and submit a separate proposal for the construction of this dedicated 100-feet road. This proactive step aims to ensure seamless connectivity and prevent bottlenecks, reflecting a holistic approach to urban planning.

The inspection was attended by key local figures, including former minister and Narasimharaja MLA Tanveer Sait, as well as Deputy Commissioner G Lakshmikanth Reddy. Their presence underscores the cross-party and administrative consensus on the importance of this project for Mysuru's development.
