Mysuru City Corporation Launches Initiative for Women and Disabled Community
In a significant move to foster economic inclusion, the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) is set to host a comprehensive workshop and livelihood solutions exhibition titled "Special-Abled and Women's Progress Path". This event will take place at the Sri Rangacharlu town hall on Thursday, aiming to create sustainable employment opportunities and enhance the financial stability of women and individuals with disabilities.
Focus on Practical Training and Solar-Powered Solutions
Speaking at the MCC office after unveiling promotional posters, Mysuru regional commissioner and MCC administrator, Nitesh Patil, emphasized the civic body's commitment to this cause. He highlighted that 5% of MCC grants are specifically reserved for people with disabilities, stressing the need to utilize these funds effectively for practical livelihood training.
The upcoming programme, organized in collaboration with the SELCO Foundation, will provide skill development training focused on self-employment using solar-powered machinery. Key areas of training include:
- Agriculture
- Animal husbandry
- Small-scale manufacturing
Patil directed officials to ensure that participants receive necessary subsidies and bank loans to kickstart their businesses post-training. He also underscored the importance of monitoring their financial progress to inspire others in the community.
'Clean Mysuru' Roadshow to Promote Environmental Awareness
In addition to the workshop, a 'Clean Mysuru' roadshow is scheduled for March 8. This rally will commence from the Mysuru Palace premises and conclude at the Oval Grounds, under the slogan 'Clean Mysuru Starts with Me'. The Chief Minister has been invited to inaugurate the event, which aims to unite environmental organizations and the general public in a collective effort towards cleanliness.
MCC commissioner Sheikh Tanveer Asif detailed that the roadshow will feature a variety of attractions, including:
- Vintage cars
- A women's bike rally
- A cycle rally
- Mounted police horses and tongas
Demonstrations will be conducted on managing various types of waste, such as construction waste, e-waste, plastics, and biomedical waste, to educate attendees on proper disposal and recycling practices.
This dual initiative reflects Mysuru's proactive approach to social empowerment and environmental sustainability, setting a benchmark for other cities to follow.
