Major Water Supply Disruption Planned for Mumbai's H-West Ward
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced a significant water supply disruption affecting several areas within Mumbai's H-West ward. This planned interruption is necessary to facilitate critical infrastructure work.
Schedule and Duration of the Water Shutdown
The BMC will carry out essential work to commission a new 750 mm diameter main water pipeline. This pipeline connects the junctions at Ramdas Naik Marg, Swami Vivekanand Marg, and R.K. Patkar Marg in Bandra West. The work is scheduled to last for a continuous period of 16 hours.
The disruption will commence at 11:00 PM on Thursday, March 28, and conclude at 5:00 PM on Friday, March 29. During this timeframe, water supply will be completely shut off in some localities, while others will experience low-pressure supply.
Affected Areas and Precautions for Residents
The impact will be felt in two phases. On Friday, March 29, the primary affected areas include Khar West, Santacruz West, and extensive parts of Bandra West. Specific localities in Bandra West facing disruption are:
- Bazaar Marg and Jain Mandir Marg area
- D'Monte Road area, Hill Road, and Perry Road
- Manuel Gonsalves Road, St. Andrews Road, St. Paul Road, and Dominic Road
- R.K. Patkar Road, New and Old Kantwadi, Ranwar Gaon, and Waroda Marg
- Carter Road, Palimala Marg, Chimbai Gaon, Sherly Gaon, Rajgaon, Malagaon, and Paligaon
- Khardanda Koliwada, Dandpada, Chuim Gaothan, and parts of the Gazdarbandh slum
On Thursday, March 28, some preliminary effects will be felt in parts of Khar West, areas along Dr. Ambedkar Marg, Pali Gaothan, Pali Plateau, and sections of Bandra West.
Official Advisory for Citizens
The civic body has issued a clear advisory to minimize inconvenience. As a precautionary measure, all residents in the affected zones are strongly requested to:
- Store an adequate supply of water for essential needs before the shutdown begins.
- Use water very sparingly throughout the 16-hour repair period to conserve any stored supply.
- After water supply resumes, boil and filter the water before drinking for the next four to five days as an added safety measure.
This advisory is standard protocol during such maintenance operations to ensure public health and manage resources effectively. The BMC emphasizes that this work is crucial for upgrading and securing the water distribution network in the western suburbs of Mumbai.
