A significant divisional-level orientation workshop for elected mukhiya representatives from seven districts under the North Chotanagpur division was conducted at Vinoba Bhave University in Hazaribag on Monday. The event aimed to strengthen grassroots governance and enhance the effectiveness of local leadership in driving community progress.
Minister Highlights Mukhiyas as Pillars of Democracy
State Rural Development Minister Deepika Pandey Singh, who attended the meeting, underscored the critical role of mukhiyas in the democratic framework. "Mukhiyas are strong pillars of democracy, and their active participation is essential for the holistic development of gram panchayats," she stated. Singh emphasized that empowering these local representatives is vital for achieving sustainable rural growth and improving the quality of life in villages.
Budget Allocation and Women-Centric Initiatives
In her address, Minister Singh revealed that 34% of the state's budget has been specifically earmarked for women and children, reflecting a commitment to gender-inclusive development. Additionally, efforts are underway to streamline public services at the panchayat level, including the initiation of Aadhaar-related services and other essential utilities. This move is expected to enhance accessibility and efficiency for rural residents.
Financial Support for Gram Panchayats
A substantial financial allocation of Rs 318 crore has been designated for gram panchayats within the North Chotanagpur division. Minister Singh confirmed that the remaining funds are scheduled to be released by March 31, ensuring timely support for various development projects and administrative functions. This investment is poised to bolster infrastructure, healthcare, education, and other key sectors in the region.
Recognition of Mukhiya Contributions
The workshop also served as a platform to honor several mukhiyas for their dedicated service and contributions to their communities. Felicitations were conducted to acknowledge their efforts in fostering local governance and driving positive change at the grassroots level. This recognition aims to motivate other representatives and reinforce the importance of their roles in the democratic process.
The orientation workshop concluded with a focus on collaborative strategies and future initiatives to enhance panchayat operations, ensuring that mukhiyas are well-equipped to address the evolving needs of their constituencies.
