Mango Municipal Corporation Unveils Comprehensive Urban Infrastructure Upgrade
In a significant move to enhance public safety and urban livability, the newly elected board of the Mango Municipal Corporation (MMC) in Jamshedpur has announced a major initiative to overhaul the town's street lighting system and implement a new surveillance network. Officials confirmed the decision on Friday, marking a proactive step towards addressing long-standing civic issues.
Extensive Street Light Repair and Installation Program
The board has approved a detailed plan to repair approximately 7,000 faulty street lights within the command limits of MMC. Additionally, the corporation will install 1,000 new street lights across all 36 wards, ensuring comprehensive coverage. All light posts in the area will be upgraded to energy-efficient LED technology, which promises better illumination and reduced energy consumption.
MMC Deputy Mayor Rahul Singh Kashyap stated, "Repairing of street lights will begin from Monday while the process of installation of the new ones will commence by the end of April." This timeline underscores the urgency and commitment of the civic body to swiftly address the lighting deficiencies.
Currently, the MMC area is equipped with 400 lamp posts, 25 high-mast lights, and over 5,200 LED lights. The new initiative will not only repair existing infrastructure but also identify new locations for the installation of additional high-mast lights, further enhancing visibility in key areas.
Strategic CCTV Surveillance and Vendor Zone Development
In parallel with the lighting upgrades, the MMC board has decided to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the installation of high-definition closed-circuit television cameras (CCTVs). This move aims to bolster security across the town.
Kashyap elaborated, "Detailed study of the locations across colonies, slums, pathways, main roads, markets and public places will be conducted to determine the total number of the sites for CCTV installation and accordingly they will be installed." Upon completion of the DPR, a formal demand for funds will be submitted to the urban development department to facilitate the implementation of this surveillance network.
Furthermore, the civic body plans to establish a dedicated vendor zone equipped with all necessary features to ensure the safety and security of both vendors and buyers. This zone will also include hygiene facilities to maintain cleanliness, reflecting a holistic approach to urban management.
