Mumbai: Teachers appointed on clock-hour basis (CHB) in government and government-aided colleges may receive additional weightage during recruitment drives conducted by the state government. This initiative aims to recognize their experience and streamline their employment process.
Portal for CHB Teacher Management
The state's higher and technical education department is developing a centralized portal to regulate CHB teacher appointments and disburse their salaries directly and efficiently, similar to full-time teachers. This system will also create a database of qualifications, experience, and other details.
Credit Points for Experience
CHB teachers may earn credit points based on their experience during the ongoing recruitment drive for over 5,000 sanctioned posts. The state's academic advisory body, MahaSARC, comprising vice-chancellors from state universities, will decide on the credit points, not exceeding 10. Teachers with more years of experience are likely to receive higher credit points.
Shift from Stop-Gap to Mainstream
Initially a stop-gap arrangement, CHB teachers have become mainstream, with many government-aided colleges relying on them for teaching aided courses. A state government official noted the lack of an efficient system for their appointment and salary disbursement, which the portal aims to address.
College Demands
Colleges are urging the government to expedite the clearance of No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for existing sanctioned posts to facilitate smoother recruitment.
