Ludhiana Municipal Corporation Pioneers Doorstep Digital Payments with e-POS Launch

In a significant stride towards digitalisation and citizen convenience, the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (MC) has launched e-POS machines, enabling residents to pay their dues directly at their doorsteps. Mayor Inderjit Kaur and Senior Deputy Mayor Rakesh Prashar inaugurated the initiative at the MC Zone D office in Sarabha Nagar on Thursday, marking a first for any civic body in Punjab.

Revolutionising Payment Collection with Technology

With this launch, the Municipal Corporation has become the first civic body in the state to accept digital payments through e-POS machines at residents' doorsteps. Previously, residents were required to visit civic body offices to make payments, but now MC teams will take the machines to the field, saving time and enhancing transparency.

The e-POS machines support multiple payment methods, including:

  • Cash transactions
  • Card payments (debit/credit)
  • Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transfers

Upon payment, receipts are generated instantly and handed over to residents, ensuring a seamless and documented process.

Expanding Payment Options for Residents

Beyond property tax, the e-POS machines will facilitate payments for:

  1. Trade license fees
  2. Rent for MC properties

This comprehensive approach aims to streamline all municipal dues into a single, accessible digital platform.

Operational Rollout and Training

Training for field staff is currently underway, with teams expected to deploy e-POS machines in the coming days. A total of 48 e-POS machines are being distributed across the city, with 12 allocated to each of MC's four zones. Officials present at the launch included Zonal Commissioner Jasdev Singh Sekhon and Zonal Superintendent Vivek Verma, among others.

Leadership's Vision for Digital Transformation

Mayor Inderjit Kaur and Senior Deputy Mayor Rakesh Prashar emphasised that this initiative is part of the civic body's broader efforts to promote digitalisation. They highlighted that it will improve transparency and efficiency in payment collections while reducing bureaucratic hurdles for residents.

Mayor Kaur directed officials to expedite the recovery of outstanding dues and announced plans to organise camps in various city areas to further facilitate payments. She urged residents to pay their dues, including property tax and water-sewer bills, promptly to avoid penalties, noting that property tax must be settled by March 31 to evade fines.

This move not only modernises municipal operations but also aligns with national digital payment trends, offering Ludhiana residents a convenient, secure, and efficient way to fulfil their civic financial obligations.
