Ludhiana Municipal Corporation Cracks Down on Illegal Constructions

In a decisive move against unauthorized development, the building branch of the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (MC) carried out a demolition drive targeting an under-construction illegal colony in the Peeru Banda area on Friday. This action underscores the civic body's commitment to enforcing building regulations, despite encountering significant challenges during the operation.

Demolition Drive Faces Resistance and Political Interference

Sources within the MC revealed that officials experienced substantial resentment and political pressure, which temporarily halted the demolition activities. Despite these obstacles, the team successfully dismantled under-construction roads and other civic amenities that were part of the illegal colony. This incident highlights the ongoing struggle between regulatory enforcement and external influences in urban governance.

Widespread Action Across Zone C Areas

Expanding the crackdown, the MC also took action against seven under-construction illegal buildings in various locations under Zone C, including Eastman Chowk, Jaspal Bangar, and Daba Road. Of these demolished structures, four were commercial buildings and three were industrial constructions. This coordinated effort was executed under the direct orders of MC Commissioner Neeru Katyal Gupta and Joint Commissioner Deepjot Kaur, demonstrating a top-down approach to tackling illegal developments.

Repeat Offenses and Civic Appeals

Officials from the MC Zone A building branch noted that this was not the first time action had been taken against the illegal colony in Peeru Banda. The owner had previously resumed construction after prior demolitions, prompting the latest intervention. In response, the building branch has issued a public appeal, urging residents to obtain approved building plans from the civic body before commencing any construction work. Failure to comply will result in strict penalties, as emphasized by the authorities.

Regular Drives to Curb Illegal Constructions

The MC has affirmed that drives against illegal constructions are conducted regularly, as per the directives of Commissioner Neeru Katyal Gupta. These ongoing efforts aim to maintain urban planning standards and prevent the proliferation of unauthorized structures. The recent demolitions serve as a stark reminder of the consequences of flouting building regulations in Ludhiana.
