Launch of Indira Canteen for Food Security

In a parallel initiative focused on social welfare, the Kochi Corporation announced the launch of an Indira Canteen to strengthen food security for ordinary citizens. This canteen will offer subsidized meals, ensuring access to three nutritious meals per day at an affordable total cost of just Rs 50.

The pricing structure is designed to be highly accessible: breakfast and dinner will each be priced at Rs 10, while lunch will cost Rs 30. This program specifically targets people from economically weaker sections, with the goal of preventing hunger and promoting nutritional well-being across the city.

Opposition leader V D Satheesan is scheduled to inaugurate the canteen at 10:30 AM on Saturday at the premises of the corporation's Edappally zonal office. According to corporation officials, this initiative reflects a broader strategy to implement welfare measures that directly benefit the public by providing essential services at nominal prices.

The introduction of the Indira Canteen is seen as a proactive step towards addressing food insecurity, aligning with the corporation's mission to foster a more inclusive and supportive urban environment. Together, these developments highlight Kochi Corporation's dual focus on administrative excellence and social responsibility.
