In a significant administrative move, the Kochi district planning committee has granted full approval for the 2026-27 annual plans of all local self-government institutions within the district. This comprehensive approval process, which involved 111 local bodies, was finalized during a crucial ad hoc committee meeting.

The decisive meeting was chaired by K G Radhakrishnan, who serves as both the chairman of the district planning committee and the president of the district panchayat. The approval process reached its conclusion with the formal endorsement of the annual plans for the Kochi corporation, marking the completion of evaluations for all institutions.

Massive Financial Allocation and Project Scope

The approved plans encompass a staggering total of 15,376 individual projects, with a combined financial outlay of ₹1,594 crore. This substantial investment is distributed across various tiers of local governance, including the Kochi corporation, district panchayats, 82 grama panchayats, 14 block panchayats, and 13 municipalities.

Sector-Wise Financial Breakdown

The financial allocation has been strategically divided across three key sectors:

  • Production Sector: ₹170 crore has been earmarked for initiatives aimed at boosting local production and economic activities.
  • Service Sector: The largest share of ₹931 crore is dedicated to enhancing public services and community welfare programs.
  • Infrastructure Sector: ₹492 crore will fund critical infrastructure development projects across the district.

During the meeting, the committee extended formal congratulations to all institutions that successfully completed their plan approval processes within the stipulated timelines.
