The Karnataka government has issued transfer orders for 27 engineers currently serving in the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) and Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Ltd (BSWML). According to sources, a significant number of these engineers are resisting the transfers and attempting to remain in their existing positions in Bengaluru.
Resistance from engineers
Engineers affected by the order have reportedly expressed reluctance to move to new postings outside the city. Many have sought meetings with senior officials to discuss the possibility of staying back. The resistance highlights the challenges faced by the government in implementing administrative changes, especially when they involve relocation from the state capital.
Government's stance
Officials in the Karnataka government have stated that the transfers are part of a routine administrative exercise aimed at optimizing manpower across departments. They emphasized that the orders were issued after considering the needs of various projects and agencies. However, the engineers argue that sudden transfers disrupt their personal and professional lives, particularly those with long tenures in Bengaluru.
The situation remains fluid as both sides engage in discussions. The government is expected to take a final decision after reviewing representations from the affected employees. Meanwhile, the engineers continue to perform their duties pending resolution of the matter.
