Kalaburagi City Corporation Unveils Rs 234.4 Crore Budget for 2026-27
The Kalaburagi City Corporation has officially presented a comprehensive budget of Rs 234.4 crore for the upcoming financial year 2026-27. This budget places a significant emphasis on advancing women's empowerment, enhancing infrastructure, and boosting public welfare initiatives across the city.
Key Highlights and Financial Overview
The special emergency budget was formally introduced at the Indira Memorial (Town Hall) Bhavan, with Mayor Varsha Rajeev Jane leading the proceedings. According to Anupama Ramesh Kamakanur, the chairperson of the Standing Committee on Taxation, Finance and Appeals, the corporation has successfully collected Rs 227 crore from various revenue streams. Based on these projected revenues, the proposed allocation of Rs 234.4 crore is strategically directed towards infrastructure development, public welfare schemes, and the launch of new projects. However, the budget reflects a deficit of approximately Rs 7.3 crore when considering the estimated expenditures.
Women's Empowerment Initiatives Take Center Stage
A standout feature of this budget is its robust focus on women's empowerment. The corporation has announced an innovative scheme to provide one pink auto to women beneficiaries in each of the city's 55 wards. This initiative is specifically designed to promote self-employment and foster economic independence among women. Additionally, the budget has earmarked a substantial Rs 3 crore for training women to drive two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and four-wheelers, further enhancing their mobility and employment opportunities.
Infrastructure and Public Welfare Allocations
The budget outlines several key allocations aimed at improving urban infrastructure and public services:
- Streetlight Maintenance and Installation: An amount of Rs 303.7 lakh has been allocated for the maintenance of existing streetlights, while Rs 50 lakh is set aside for installing streetlights on new roads to enhance safety and visibility.
- Sanitation Facilities: A total of Rs 76.7 lakh has been designated for the construction of toilets and urinals, with an additional Rs 10 lakh specifically for building special toilets for transgender persons, promoting inclusivity.
- Welfare Fund for Disabilities: Under the 5% welfare fund, Rs 10 lakh has been allocated to support the welfare of persons with disabilities, ensuring their needs are addressed.
- Urban Development: Rs 50 lakh has been provided for the development of new layouts, and each of the 55 wards will receive Rs 10 lakh to undertake urgent development works, facilitating localized improvements.
