Jaipur's Jhalana Bypass Road Poised for Major Transportation Overhaul

In a significant move to enhance urban mobility, the Jhalana Bypass Road in Jaipur may be developed into a comprehensive three-tier transportation corridor, modeled after the successful Ajmer Road project. This ambitious plan includes proposals for an elevated road and a metro corridor to run concurrently along the same stretch, aiming to alleviate traffic congestion and improve connectivity.

Chief Minister Directs Coordination Between JDA and JMRC

During a crucial review meeting held on Friday, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma issued directives to the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) to work in close coordination with the Jaipur Metro Railway Corporation (JMRC). The objective is to seamlessly integrate the proposed elevated road and metro projects, ensuring a unified approach to infrastructure development.

Comprehensive Mobility Plan Details

Officials revealed that Jaipur's Comprehensive Mobility Plan outlines a metro corridor designed to connect Transport Nagar to Jagatpura via the Jhalana Bypass. Additionally, the plan incorporates a spur line extending from the Jagatpura RoB to Khatipura railway station, enhancing rail-based transit options.

Simultaneously, the state budget has allocated funds for an elevated road project between Aranya Bhawan and Balaji Tiraha in Malviya Nagar. Vaibhav Galriya, Managing Director of JMRC, stated, "We are currently assessing the feasibility of operating both projects together. If deemed feasible, the Jhalana Bypass Road will feature both a metro corridor and an elevated road, creating a multi-layered transport solution."

Focus on Timely Execution and Future Expansion

During the meeting, Chief Minister Sharma emphasized the importance of timely execution for metro projects. He instructed JMRC to prioritize developing an action plan that links future expansion phases with the existing network, particularly targeting densely populated areas to maximize public benefit.

Galriya provided updates on the metro's progress, noting, "Phase 1 of the Jaipur Metro is fully operational, and construction for extension corridors is underway. We plan to commence Phase 2 construction shortly. Our focus now is on extending metro services to other key areas of Jaipur, including Agra Road, Old Delhi Road, and Ajmer Road."

Future Expansion Plans

Officials highlighted that future metro extensions could extend beyond Jagatpura to:

  • Amer
  • Bagrana on Agra Road
  • The newly built ISBT at Hirapura on Ajmer Road

These expansions are expected to significantly broaden the city's mass transit reach, providing efficient and accessible transportation options for residents and visitors alike.
