IIM Ahmedabad Gets Gujarat's 2nd N-GEN Post Office: Wi-Fi, Cafe & Student Discounts
IIM Ahmedabad Inaugurates Tech-Enabled N-GEN Post Office

In a significant move to modernize postal services for the younger generation, India Post inaugurated a completely revamped, next-generation post office at the prestigious Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A) on Friday. This marks the second such N-GEN facility in Gujarat, transforming a traditional post office into a vibrant, technology-driven service hub designed specifically for students.

A Campus Hub Co-Created by Students

The inauguration ceremony was led by Ganesh V Sawaleshwarkar, Chief Postmaster General of Gujarat Circle, alongside Prof. Bharat Bhasker, Director of IIM Ahmedabad, and Krishna Kumar Yadav, Postmaster General of North Gujarat. A key highlight of this initiative is its collaborative design process. IIM-A students played an active role in co-creating the space, ensuring it reflects campus culture while integrating modern amenities for seamless public service delivery.

Beyond Stamps: Amenities & Core Services

The redesigned post office goes far beyond traditional mail services. It is equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi, a cozy cafeteria, and a mini library to foster a productive environment. For relaxation, it offers indoor games and comfortable, student-friendly seating areas.

While embracing a contemporary vibe, the facility continues to provide all core postal and financial services. It also supports digital payment options for convenience. In a major benefit for the campus community, students will enjoy a 10% discount on Speed Post and parcel services.

Part of a National Vision for Postal Revamp

This project is a direct implementation of the national N-GEN (Next Generation) programme spearheaded by Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. The vision is to systematically overhaul post offices located within educational institutions across India, making them relevant and attractive to youth.

Gujarat's first N-GEN post office was launched at the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar in December 2025. The successful launch at IIM Ahmedabad signals the rapid expansion of this initiative. India Post has confirmed plans to extend similar makeovers to more campus post offices nationwide in the coming months, redefining how a generation interacts with postal services.
