Himachal Clears 980 Compassionate Appointments, Ends Years of Wait
HP Govt Clears 980 Compassionate Appointment Cases

In a significant move aimed at delivering social justice, the Himachal Pradesh government has resolved a record 980 long-pending cases of compassionate appointments. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced this decision on Monday, marking a major step towards providing financial stability and restoring dignity to the families of deceased government employees who had been waiting for years.

A Compassionate Drive for Immediate Relief

Describing the initiative as one driven by empathy, Chief Minister Sukhu stated that the action was designed to bring immediate relief to families enduring prolonged uncertainty and hardship. The appointments were processed during a special relaxation window that spanned from October 1 to December 31, 2025. This drive specifically covered Class-III Junior Office Assistant (Information Technology) and Class-IV Multi-Task Worker (MTW) positions across the state administration.

Breakdown of Appointments Across Departments

Of the total 980 appointments cleared, 366 candidates have been placed in Class-III posts, while 614 have been appointed to Class-IV MTW roles. The government adopted a targeted approach, focusing on departments with the largest backlogs to ensure no deserving family suffered further due to procedural delays.

The Jal Shakti Vibhag accounted for the highest number of appointments at 419, which included 100 JOAs (IT) and 319 Class-IV posts. Following closely were the Public Works Department with 175 appointments and the Education Department with 128 appointments.

Appointments were also successfully made across 19 other key departments, ensuring wide coverage. These departments include:

  • Home
  • Health and Family Welfare
  • Ayush
  • Animal Husbandry
  • Agriculture
  • Fire Services
  • Urban Development
  • Rural Development
  • Revenue
  • HRTC

Correcting Past Injustices and Governance Failure

Taking a firm stance, Chief Minister Sukhu criticized the previous BJP-led government for its alleged neglect. He accused the former administration of ignoring eligible families and allowing these compassionate cases to remain unresolved for years, terming it a serious governance failure. Sukhu emphasized that his government is determined to correct these past injustices and is committed to strengthening the social security net for the families of government employees who have lost their breadwinners.

This decisive action not only provides timely financial assistance but also underscores the present administration's commitment to responsive and humane governance. By clearing this massive backlog, the Himachal Pradesh government has addressed a long-standing grievance, bringing hope and stability to hundreds of families across the state.
