Haveri district is set to embark on a landmark digital census initiative, with the first phase scheduled to run from April 1 to May 15, 2025. Deputy Commissioner and Chief Census Officer Vijay Mahantesh Danammanavar has officially announced the commencement of this critical national exercise, emphasizing its importance for governmental planning and development.
Confidential Data Collection for National Development
During a press conference held on Tuesday, Danammanavar reassured citizens that all information provided during the census will remain strictly confidential. He categorically stated that no individual benefits or entitlements will be reduced based on census data, urging the public to disregard any rumors to the contrary.
The deputy commissioner stressed the necessity for accurate public participation, explaining that population statistics along with economic and social condition data form the foundation for implementing various government schemes effectively. "The census provides essential insights that guide national development policies," Danammanavar noted.
Historic Shift to Digital Methodology
This census marks a significant technological milestone in India's demographic history. For the first time, the entire process is being conducted comprehensively using mobile applications and digital methods, moving away from traditional paper-based enumeration.
The census operation in Haveri district involves:
- 3,218 appointed enumerators (2,413 rural and 806 urban)
- 571 supervisors (425 rural and 146 urban)
- Self-enumeration option available from April 1-15 via the official portal
Two-Phase Census Timeline
Danammanavar outlined the complete census schedule for Karnataka:
- First Phase (House Listing and Housing Census): April 1 to May 15, 2025
- Second Phase (Population Count): February 2027 to March 1, 2027
The deputy commissioner explained that a census represents an official, complete count of every family and individual within a country at a specific time, capturing detailed demographic, economic, and social information. This data serves as crucial statistical infrastructure for policy formulation and resource allocation.
Voluntary Participation Encouraged
Danammanavar made a passionate appeal for voluntary public participation, highlighting how accurate census data directly contributes to national progress. "Every citizen's information helps shape a better future for our country," he emphasized during the press briefing.
The press conference saw attendance from several key officials including Zilla Panchayat CEO Ruchi Bindal, Additional Deputy Commissioner Nagaraj L, and Assistant Superintendent of Police Lakshman Shirakol, demonstrating the coordinated governmental effort behind this massive demographic exercise.
With the digital infrastructure now in place and personnel appointed, Haveri district stands ready to execute this historic census that will provide valuable insights for India's development trajectory over the coming decade.
