Gurgaon MCG Initiates Intensive Sanitation Drive for Enhanced Cleanliness
The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) is set to launch a comprehensive 'Intensive Sanitation Drive' spanning the entire month of April, from the 1st to the 30th. This ambitious campaign aims to fortify the city's cleanliness infrastructure and systematically eliminate garbage-vulnerable points (GVPs) that have been persistent issues in various areas.
Strategic Focus and Key Objectives
Under the directives of MCG Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya, the drive will concentrate on several critical areas to ensure a holistic improvement in sanitation. The primary goals include:
- Clearing all identified garbage-vulnerable points (GVPs) to prevent waste accumulation.
- Enhancing both mechanised and manual road sweeping operations for thorough cleaning.
- Ensuring regular and systematic cleaning of internal roads, bustling markets, and public spaces.
- Prioritising the proper disposal of horticulture waste to maintain green areas and reduce environmental hazards.
Commissioner Dahiya emphasised that the campaign is designed to deliver visible and time-bound improvements in cleanliness, making Gurgaon a more hygienic and pleasant city for all residents.
Zonal Oversight and Accountability Measures
To ensure effective implementation, senior officials have been assigned specific zones with clear responsibilities for monitoring and execution. The zonal breakdown is as follows:
- Additional Municipal Commissioner Ankita Chaudhary will oversee Zone-1.
- Additional Commissioner Yash Jaluka has been tasked with Zone-2.
- Additional Commissioner Ravinder Yadav will manage Zone-3.
- Joint Commissioner Preetpal Singh will be responsible for Zone-4.
These officials are mandated to conduct daily supervision and inspections, ensuring that sanitation work progresses smoothly and meets the set standards. Additionally, all zones are required to submit weekly progress reports accompanied by 'before and after' photographs to track improvements and maintain transparency.
Ensuring Quality and Community Involvement
Commissioner Dahiya will also perform surprise inspections to uphold accountability and assess the quality of work being carried out. This proactive approach is intended to prevent lapses and encourage diligent efforts from all involved parties.
In preparation for the drive, officials have been instructed to evaluate and secure necessary resources in advance, including:
- Adequate manpower to handle the increased workload.
- Sufficient machinery and vehicles for efficient waste management.
Moreover, the civic body is actively promoting community participation to bolster the campaign's success. Councillors, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), market associations, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and residents are all encouraged to contribute to this collective effort. Their involvement is seen as crucial for fostering a sense of ownership and ensuring sustainable cleanliness practices beyond the drive's duration.
This month-long initiative represents a significant step by the MCG to address long-standing sanitation challenges, with the ultimate goal of transforming Gurgaon into a cleaner and more liveable urban environment.
