Goa Faces LPG Cylinder Shortage in Multiple Areas Amid High Demand
Goa LPG Shortage Hits Sattari, Quepem, Bardez, Porvorim

Goa Grapples with LPG Cylinder Shortages and Delivery Delays in Key Regions

The Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs in Goa has issued directives to gas agencies operating in areas such as Sattari, Quepem, Bardez, and Porvorim, urging them to accelerate LPG cylinder deliveries. This action comes in response to reports of limited or depleted LPG stocks, exacerbated by excessive demand linked to the ongoing West Asia conflict.

Widespread Complaints Over Delayed Deliveries and Missing OTPs

Numerous complaints have surfaced from consumers in Sattari and Quepem, highlighting significant issues with gas cylinder deliveries. Customers have reported not receiving their one-time passwords (OTPs) at the scheduled delivery times, leading to further delays. In more severe cases, some consumers have been left waiting for their LPG cylinders for up to a month after placing orders, causing considerable inconvenience and disruption to daily life.

Official Response and Measures to Address the Crisis

Jayant Tari, the Director of Civil Supplies, confirmed that the department has formally notified oil marketing companies (OMCs) about the escalating situation. The OMCs are expected to instruct gas agencies to implement special arrangements aimed at expediting deliveries and clearing the backlog of pending orders. Tari emphasized that certain areas are experiencing disproportionately high demand without adequate delivery vehicle support to manage the process efficiently.

"We have engaged with the OMCs, as gas agencies source their cylinders from bottling plants, and requested them to deploy additional vehicles and adopt targeted measures to complete deliveries promptly," Tari stated. "Our team is actively monitoring regions where stock depletion is occurring rapidly. As of the latest update on Friday, gas agencies in Tivim, Quepem, and Porvorim were particularly affected by supply shortages. We anticipate that the situation will stabilize once the pending deliveries are successfully executed."

Root Causes and Broader Implications

The shortage is primarily attributed to a surge in demand, which has strained the existing supply chain infrastructure. The West Asia conflict has further intensified this demand, creating a ripple effect that impacts local gas agencies' ability to maintain consistent stock levels. This scenario underscores broader challenges in logistics and resource allocation within the consumer goods sector, especially in regions with limited access to delivery resources.

Consumers are advised to remain patient as authorities work to resolve the issue, with the department committed to ensuring that normalcy is restored through coordinated efforts with OMCs and gas agencies.
