Goa Fire Department Ramps Up Safety Measures for Panaji Parade
The Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) in Goa has announced comprehensive fire safety arrangements for an upcoming parade in Panaji, scheduled for Saturday, February 14. In a proactive move to prevent any untoward incidents, the department will deploy a significant contingent of personnel and equipment along the designated parade route.
Substantial Deployment of Fire Personnel and Vehicles
A total of 30 fire officers will be stationed strategically to oversee fire safety protocols during the event. The DFES will also position two primary fire tenders, supplemented by additional specialized vehicles. Specifically, the deployment includes a mini fire tender, a standard fire truck, and two motor vehicles, all dedicated to ensuring rapid response capabilities.
The parade route will extend from the Old Mandovi Bridge to the DB Ground, covering key areas of Panaji. The mini fire tender will be stationed at the Old Mandovi Bridge, where the parade is set to commence, while the fire truck will be located near the Adil Shah Palace. This placement ensures coverage at both the starting point and a central location along the route.
Enhanced Safety Protocols and Preventive Measures
A senior fire officer from the DFES emphasized the department's commitment to maximum fire safety and prevention efforts. "We are taking all necessary precautions to avoid any incident, such as the recent fire at a nightclub," the officer stated. "Our goal is to ensure a safe environment for all participants and spectators."
In addition to the stationed vehicles, portable fire extinguishers will be kept on standby at various points along the route. The DFES has also mandated that event organizers obtain a Fire No Objection Certificate (NOC) before constructing any temporary structures on the parade route. This requirement is part of a broader strategy to enforce compliance with fire safety regulations.
Coordination and Readiness for Emergencies
The senior officer further explained that the DFES team at headquarters will be continuously informed about the event's proceedings. "This real-time communication will allow us to call for reinforcements immediately if needed, ensuring we can respond swiftly to any emergency," he added. This coordinated approach highlights the department's preparedness to handle potential fire hazards effectively.
The DFES's extensive preparations underscore the importance of fire safety in public events, particularly in crowded urban settings like Panaji.
