Ludhiana's Traffic Woes to Ease as GLADA Launches Major Bypass Construction
GLADA Begins Construction on Ludhiana's Missing Link-2 Part-C Road

Ludhiana's Traffic Relief Project Officially Underway

Commuters in Ludhiana are poised for significant relief as the Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) has officially commenced construction on the crucial "Missing Link-2 Part-C" road. This ambitious infrastructure project is specifically designed to address the city's persistent and severe traffic congestion issues that have long plagued daily travel.

Project Details and Expected Benefits

The newly initiated bypass is projected to dramatically reduce travel times by a minimum of 20 minutes for over 25,000 daily commuters upon its anticipated completion in October. This strategic development will establish a direct connection between Malerkotla Road and the Sidhwan Canal-Lohara Bridge, creating a vital alternative route for vehicular movement.

Engineered to contemporary urban standards, the Missing Link-2 Part-C project incorporates several sophisticated features:

  • Four-Lane Main Road: A dual-carriageway system optimized for high-velocity transit and improved traffic flow.
  • Service Lanes: Dedicated 20-foot-wide service roads on both sides to facilitate local access without disrupting main traffic.
  • Aesthetics and Safety: A lush central verge featuring extensive plantations complemented by state-of-the-art LED street lighting for enhanced visibility and environmental appeal.
  • Future-Proof Design: An expansive 200-foot right-of-way to accommodate anticipated growth and future infrastructure needs.

Strategic Traffic Diversion and Long-Term Planning

The "Missing Link" serves as a critical bypass for vehicles traveling between Ferozepur Road, Malerkotla Road, and the Delhi Highway. By providing this direct alternative route, GLADA officials anticipate a substantial reduction in the bottleneck currently congesting the Sidhwan Canal area, which has been a major pain point for commuters.

To ensure the road's durability and sustained performance, the construction contract includes a mandatory five-year maintenance period following the initial one-year construction phase. A GLADA official emphasized the broader impact, stating, "This project will enhance economic activities in the area and provide a major push to the overall development of the city."

Looking ahead, the authority has confirmed that following the completion of both Missing Links 1 and 2, preliminary plans are already being developed for a third link. This forward-thinking approach aims to further distribute Ludhiana's growing traffic load and create a more comprehensive urban mobility network.
