Maheshwar Rao, the chief of the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), has demanded a permanent solution to the chronic waterlogging problem on Banerghatta Road. He emphasized the need for immediate and effective measures to address the issue that has plagued commuters and residents for years.
Survey and New Drain Planned
Rao instructed officials to conduct a comprehensive survey of the area and submit a detailed report regarding the construction of a new drainage system near Silk Board Junction. This initiative aims to prevent recurring waterlogging in HSR Layout, a densely populated residential area that suffers heavily during the monsoon season.
The new drain is expected to channel excess rainwater efficiently, reducing flooding on key roads and residential streets. Officials have been directed to expedite the survey and planning process to ensure timely implementation before the next rainy season.
Long-Standing Issue
Banerghatta Road, a major arterial route in Bengaluru, has experienced severe waterlogging during heavy rains, causing traffic jams and inconvenience to thousands of daily commuters. The problem is particularly acute near Silk Board Junction, one of the city's busiest intersections.
Residents of HSR Layout have repeatedly complained about water entering their homes and damaging property. The GBA chief's intervention is seen as a step toward addressing these grievances effectively.
Rao also stressed the importance of coordination between various civic agencies to ensure the project's success. He called for regular monitoring of the drainage system's maintenance to prevent future blockages.
