Dharwad DC: No LPG Shortage, Warns Against Panic Booking

Dharwad Deputy Commissioner Confirms Ample LPG Cylinder Supply, Urges Public Calm

In a bid to dispel growing concerns over domestic cooking gas availability, Dharwad Deputy Commissioner Snehal R conducted a surprise inspection of a local LPG cylinder distribution agency on Tuesday. The visit to Shri Rama HP Gas Agency in Malamaddi, Dharwad, aimed to assess ground realities and address public anxiety.

No Shortage, Just Delivery Delays

Deputy Commissioner Snehal categorically stated there is no shortage of domestic LPG cylinders in Dharwad district. She emphasized that while delivery timelines have extended by two to three days post-booking, all registered consumers will receive their cylinders as per established norms. "Rumours of a shortage are completely unfounded," she declared, urging citizens to refrain from panic booking which unnecessarily strains the supply chain.

Current Stock and Supply Dynamics

Officials provided detailed inventory data to support the administration's stance:

  • Current Stock: Approximately 16,822 domestic LPG cylinders are available across the district.
  • Daily Supply: Around 10,000 cylinders are being distributed daily to meet consumer demand.
  • Delivery Timeline: Due to a surge in advance bookings, delivery has been stretched to 5-6 days in some areas, compared to the standard schedule.

The DC explained that the system is designed for steady demand, and sudden spikes in bookings create artificial bottlenecks.

Strict Action Against Misuse

Deputy Commissioner Snehal issued a stern warning against the misuse of domestic LPG cylinders. She clarified that using household cylinders for commercial purposes, or engaging in illegal storage and transfer, constitutes a punishable offence under the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Order, 2000. The public was urged to report any such violations to the authorities immediately.

Revised Booking Guidelines Clarified

To ensure equitable distribution, the administration highlighted the existing booking rules:

  1. Ujjwala Scheme Beneficiaries: Can book a refill once every 45 days.
  2. Other Consumers: Are eligible to book a refill every 25 days.

"These guidelines are in place to prevent hoarding and ensure everyone has access," the DC noted.

Administration's Assurance and Public Appeal

Reassuring citizens, Deputy Commissioner Snehal confirmed that the district administration and the Food Department are closely monitoring the LPG supply situation to maintain smooth and fair distribution. She made a heartfelt appeal for public cooperation, requesting that bookings be made only when necessary to prevent the creation of artificial shortages.

"We have sufficient stock. Panic is the real enemy here. Let's work together to keep the system running smoothly for everyone," she concluded, following her inspection aimed at fostering transparency and trust.
