Delhi Resets Liquor Barcodes for 2026-27 to Boost Traceability

Delhi Government Announces Fresh Liquor Brand Registrations and Barcode Reset for 2026-27

In a significant move to strengthen regulatory oversight and enhance traceability within the liquor supply chain, the Delhi government has announced fresh brand registrations for the 2026-27 financial year. This initiative includes a comprehensive reset of liquor barcodes, an annual exercise conducted at the start of the new fiscal period.

Automatic Expiry of Active SKUs to Ensure Compliance

According to an official statement, all active Stock Keeping Units (SKUs) will automatically expire in the system at 23:59:59 on March 31. After this deadline, no licensee will be permitted to conduct trade using these SKUs unless their validity is explicitly extended. This measure is designed to prevent the misuse of outdated product codes and ensure that only current, properly registered items are available in the market.

Understanding SKUs in Delhi's Liquor Monitoring System

In Delhi, every liquor product is assigned a unique SKU based on its brand, size, and type. These SKUs serve as critical identification codes used to monitor stock levels, track sales and movement, generate barcodes, and maintain regulatory compliance. From April 1, fresh SKUs will be issued as part of the government's strategy to enhance supply-chain control and traceability.

Official Emphasis on Better Traceability and Regulatory Control

The official emphasized that this move is aimed at ensuring better traceability and tighter regulatory control over the liquor distribution network. By resetting barcodes and updating SKUs annually, the government aims to create a more transparent and accountable system that can quickly identify and address any irregularities or non-compliance issues.

Strict Action Warned for Non-Compliance

The excise department has issued a stern warning, indicating that strict action will be taken against any licensee found to be non-compliant with the new regulations. This underscores the government's commitment to enforcing the rules and maintaining integrity within the liquor supply chain, thereby safeguarding public health and revenue interests.

This annual reset not only aligns with financial year changes but also reinforces Delhi's proactive approach to leveraging technology for governance. By regularly updating SKUs and barcodes, the administration seeks to stay ahead of potential fraud and ensure that all liquor products in the market are properly documented and traceable from production to point of sale.
